How To Get Scholarships for Moms
22 Nov 2009
On of the big things I underestimated about getting a scholarship for moms is the amount of preparation required. I unfortunately didn’t think about a lot of things and almost missed many of my deadlines. Don’t let this mistake happen to you! Good preparation towards getting a scholarship is key to make the process go quickly.
Some Things You’ll Need to do
The great thing about getting a scholarship is that there is a reasonably standard process to most of the scholarships you’ll apply for.
And if you know how to play their game, you can get out of it what you need ( like a scholarship!). Here are some things to get ready before you even start to look at what scholarships are out there.
- Your achievements to date (don’t worry if you don’t have any, this is just part of the equation)
- Your area of study
- Any special talents, gifts, or interesting facts about you
- A desired purpose, in other words what you plan to do with your education (don’t say make more money)
- A list of hardships you’ve overcome in the past, or need to overcome currently
These are just some of the elements that are needed to help start the process. This information is reasonably consistent across many of the scholarship applications I came across.
One other important point to remember in applying for scholarships is to be friendly yet professional. You will be obviously dealing with people, including admissions officers and financial institution that will be looking for professional people to represent their scholarship. Be kind in working with them, and they are sure to process your application promptly.
Lastly, be sure to apply for ALL free scholarship offers. You never know what can happen. Here is my favorite:
